As the client was in an early stage of business, it was difficult for them to articulate what they envisioned for their visual identity. Frankly, it was a relief because it meant we could take them through our usual process and start with, quite literally, a blank canvas.
Here is the mandate we received through our first exercise, a creative brief: “We want something energetic, modern, and classy with an undertone of rebellion. We want to be bold, minimalist and elegant yet easy to digest and accessible. We also want to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism”.
The challenge was clear, even after our first consultation. How do we design an “accessible, bold, classy, elegant, energetic, modern, minimalist, professional, and rebellious” visual identity that is appropriate, distinctive, and appealing for a corporate audience?
Creativity thrives in the face of constraints, so we immediately conducted sector research, analyzing the ideal consumer, and the competition. Then, it was off to the drawing board for a few weeks where we explored options that kept the vision and goals of our client in mind. Lastly, we narrowed our ideas down to one option, polished the concept, and presented it in person. The client felt that the proposed concept was the perfect solution for the business he set out to build, so the whole identity was approved on the spot.
Our approach is to present clients with one winning solution. We do this for two important reasons:
1) Budget: more options cost more money.
2) Quality: a single solution directs and focuses our creative efforts. We know that it is very easy to come up with a few mediocre options, but it is very difficult to perfect one great solution.
At the heart of Rise Up Strategies’ identity is a fusion of the letters ‘R’ and ‘U’, symbolizing the different practices the company offers. The 30-degree angles give the logo motion and dynamism, while remaining stable and robust. Combined with a modern sans-serif typography and a sophisticated colour palette, we truly believe that this visual identity is the perfect foundation to build upon, and will increase the overall value of the company.
